Art Gallery and Apartment

PROJECT 3 - Art Gallery/Apartment

Location - King St, Newtown Sydney
Adjacent to Missenden Rd

Site Plan

View of site from Missenden Rd

View from right side of site on King St

View from left side of site on King st

Views from the site looking the left and right respectively
Initial idea of the building is that the front facade will be at a low height because the facade is facing northwest to allow light to enter into the middle part of the building which is the courtyard. On the opposite side of the building, there are many double and triple height building which will block the sunlight, therefore the site is located adjacent to Missenden Rd, so there are no buildings to block any sunlight. The reason why the front facade is low, it is because to accompany and balance the surrounding corners of the area. Opposite to the site, is a pub with high facade, same as the building on the left of the building. Adjacent to the building is a seafood shop that is single height. Therefore keeping the rhythm of high, low, high, low. The rear of the building will be higher then the front because to attract more light and also creating a visual connection if view from Missenden Rd.
