Artists and Artworks

1. Shigeo Fukada
Shigeo Fukuda (福田 繁雄, born February 4, 1932, Tokyo) is a sculptor, graphic artist and poster designer who creates optical illusions. His art pieces usually portray deception, such as Lunch With a Helmet On, a sculpture created entirely from forks, knives, and spoons, that casts a detailed shadow of a motorcycle.
Artworks choosen -
Aquarium for Swimming Characters (1988)
Hanging fish which under lights create a shadow of japanese characters
Encore (1976)
(Sculpture in wood, 1976 - 50 x 50 x 30 cm)
From one angle, the sculpture depicts a pianist. But if you turn it by 90 degrees you will see a violinist. The third photo shows an intermediate point of view, where you can see how the pianist transforms into the violinist. This wooden sculpture consists of two silhouettes (the pianist and the violinist) at 90° angles to each other.

Noble and Webster’s first attention grabber came in 1994 when their work Hijack was fly-postered around London, New York and Berlin. In this work the couple replaced the faces of well-known art duo Gilbert and George with their own, adding the text: "Tim Noble and Sue Webster: The Simple Solution". Art Gallery and Apartment

PROJECT 3 - Art Gallery/Apartment

Location - King St, Newtown Sydney
Adjacent to Missenden Rd

Site Plan

View of site from Missenden Rd

View from right side of site on King St

View from left side of site on King st

Views from the site looking the left and right respectively
Initial idea of the building is that the front facade will be at a low height because the facade is facing northwest to allow light to enter into the middle part of the building which is the courtyard. On the opposite side of the building, there are many double and triple height building which will block the sunlight, therefore the site is located adjacent to Missenden Rd, so there are no buildings to block any sunlight. The reason why the front facade is low, it is because to accompany and balance the surrounding corners of the area. Opposite to the site, is a pub with high facade, same as the building on the left of the building. Adjacent to the building is a seafood shop that is single height. Therefore keeping the rhythm of high, low, high, low. The rear of the building will be higher then the front because to attract more light and also creating a visual connection if view from Missenden Rd.

The main activities of the building are all located in a triangle
The painting also constructed within a one point perspective (chair and window lining towards the central point in the painting)
Design drawings for container

A trianglar plan is derived and created from the painting. The figure is continuously walking in circle, looking out into the open. This represent the real life situation where humans seek for answers everyday but is having trouble finding life's answer.
A platform with a landscape views of the surrounding is created for the figure seeking for answers, like a perspective view from inside to outside.
